Dr. Suzanne Joined us in the Summer of 2024, and has been sharing her magic at Full Moon Acupuncture ever since! She shared a bit about her approach to her practice and her personal inspirations. Read on to find out more.

Can you share a bit about your background and what led you to become an acupuncturist?
It was partially my own healing journey that led me to acupuncture as a profession. I had a shoulder injury that was not healing and at the same time was going through major life transitions. Acupuncture proved to be a significant support in my healing process. After decades of being a massage therapist and body working, I wanted more tools and ways of helping people. Acupuncture was the next natural step on my path!
How do you make clients feel comfortable, especially those who may be nervous about needles? I always want people to know they have full agency with me as a practitioner and that informed consent is an ongoing process. Just because you were okay with a particular treatment one time does not mean that will be the same next time. Too often healthcare systems and interactions strip us of feeling secure, safe, and empowered. We all need to have our intuition and agency honored and reflected back to us; only then can we use our innate senses to uncover more health and wellness and work through challenges.
Can you share how acupuncture has helped clients with chronic pain, stress, or other common issues? My training through Whitfield Reaves Orthopedic and Sports Apprenticeship has provided me with so much clinical knowledge in how to treat pain. There are lots of approaches to treating pain through acupuncture, but these techniques resonate with my background in myofascial and trigger point clinical massage and I have seen them help myself and others recover from injury or pain. A key to healing pain is being able to get out of it long enough to then recognize the trigger(s) in your life. These can be chemical, emotional, or physical or all of the above, but often when the pain cycle is constant and long term, it gets hard to identify the particular stressors. It is so rewarding to see someone have so much clarity around what needs to shift in their life after helping them break the pain cycle with acupuncture.
What are some common misconceptions about acupuncture that you'd like to clear up? That it is a stand alone treatment. It is part of a whole and complete system of health and medicine including herbs, lifestyle, diet, and philosophy. This is why we ask so many questions during an intake and throughout the care process. Acupuncture alone can help with so much, but combined with herbs, it can transform long term health.
Outside of acupuncture, are there any other wellness practices or hobbies you’re passionate about?
I am very passionate about having creative outlets for our spirit. This can be anything that speaks to the individual. For me personally, being in nature and music are the two practices that have been a constant most of my life. I grew up with an amazing drummer in the family. She made sure my sisters and I knew every Beatles and Rolling Stones song by the time we started kindergarten!
Fun Rapid Fire….
